Commemorating the 35th Anniversary of April 30, 1975

Join us on April 30, 2010 to commemorate a very important day in the USS Midway's and Vietnam's history. It is the 35th anniversary of the fall of Saigon and one particular historic mission : the Operation Frequent Wind, the humanitarian mission when USS Midway sailors rescued more than 3,000 Vietnamese refugees fleeing the fall of Saigon.

The general public is invited to a special ceremony at 12 noon on the flight deck, featuring the 1975 captain of Midway, Larry Chambers, and the 1975 air boss of Midway, Vern Jumper, plus Vietnamese performances and entertainment.

Tickets are $20 for adults which includes a commemorative pin. Seniors and youth can purchase regular admission with commemorative pins available for sale in the museum gift shop.

Education in America

Why 1.3 million high school students drop out each year ?

* Half of parents simply do not care.

* Half of teachers are ill-prepared to teach, and can not be fired.

* Half of administrator's time are spent on red tapes, not on education.

* Half of school spendings are mainly waste and abuse, and can not be cut.

* The other half of school spendings are for pensions.

* Half of school board trustees work teacher unions,

* The other half of school board trustees work for contract vendors.

Why California is doomed !

Boom and burst economy : For the past 50 years, we have had so many boom/burst cycles : the defense industry, the personal computer industry, the software , the internet revolution, and the biotech boom & ( soon to be busted ). Each boom offered newer source of revenues, and also higher cost structures, from housing to tax burden;

After many companies /entrepreneurs discovered that California would be a really difficult place to grow business, they packed up and go offshore or to a different state. Subsequent bust will ultimately followed. Our regulatory environment and tax structure are killing the hen that has been laying golden eggs.

Why Bangalore of India is thriving with amazing enterprising energy, while our Silicon Valley is exhausting with signs of fatigue. ( I used to live in the Bay area during the internet boom )

Bankruptcy will not be a choice but an inevitability, for our city and state.

San Diego : Drowning in the sea of red ink

    Pick your choice :

    1. To maintain the current pension obligation, San Diego city would have to fork out $232 million this year, which means reducing vital public services: street repairs, police etc...

    2. or to declare bankruptcy, and pay $200+ millions for attorney fees, which means even more draconian cuts on all vital public services.

    Supreme Court Overturns Campaign Limits

Supreme Court on Thursday January 21, 2010 ruled that the government may not ban political spending by corporations in candidate elections.

“If the First Amendment has any force,” Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote for the majority, “it prohibits Congress from fining or jailing citizens, or associations of citizens, for simply engaging in political speech.”

"The 1st Amendment does not permit Congress to make these categorical distinctions based on the corporate identity of the speaker and the content of the political speech."

    Negative implication

Does it mean now multi-national corporations

( with enormous resources and infinite legal lifespan )

have the same freedom of speech as individual citizens

( with limited resources and biological lifespan ) ?
